Sexual Harassment: Investigation - Site and District Level
Onsite

McGrath Comprehensive Sexual Harassment Investigation Training

The McGrath Comprehensive Sexual Harassment Investigation Training begins with  awareness, the two types of sexual harassment-- quid pro quo and hostile environment, and sexual favoritism and harassment by non-employees. Participants complete this first segment knowing exactly what sexual harassment is, what their responsibilities are, and the initial steps to take if they observe sexual harassment or if an incident is brought to their attention by an employee.

The majority of our two-day training is devoted to Module 2, Complaint Management and Investigation. This training is mandatory for human resources directors, site managers, counselors and school administrators who receive sexual harassment and misconduct complaints, even if they only do the initial intake. It provides an overview of applicable laws and procedures while inquiring into the psychodynamics of victims, perpetrators and witnesses. The training is designed to walk the participants through the complete investigative procedure and to explore the interview process through role-playing and discussion.

Each participant is provided a McGrath Sexual Harassment Investigation Workbook, complete with up-to-date federal laws, EEOC guidelines, case study transcripts, complaint intake forms, interview checklists, investigation guidelines, and a template for preparing a final investigation report.

GRADUATE CREDIT is available for both ON SITE workshops

Two training modules are available:
1. Investigation of Complaints
2. Advanced Investigation of Complaints*

School districts are most at risk and are least prepared when it comes to conducting quality sexual harassment investigations. Untrained administrators frequently take actions that are neither correct nor legally fit, leaving both the school district and the administrator exposed to liability while putting students at risk of harm.

Participants will learn:

  • To work safely and cooperatively in administrative, civil, and criminal investigations
  • When informal resolution is appropriate and when to initiate formal procedures
  • How to prepare and conduct interviews of the complainant, the accused and witnesses
  • Steps to remediate the effects of misconduct on the victim and the environment
  • How to provide interagency coordination for high-profile situations and criminal cases

For: Title IX officers, investigators, human resources managers, EEO officers, school principals - anyone who conducts site-level inquires or district-level formal investigations of sexual harassment complaints by students and/or employees.
